Joan Sommerfield is the properties designer for Orfeo ed Euridice. Her previous West Bay Opera designs include Carmen, Der fliegende Holländer, Così fan tutte, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, The Merry Widow, The Queen of Spades, Macbeth, The Rake’s Progress, Manon Lescaut, The Magic Flute, The Threepenny Opera, Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Giovanni, Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Périchole, Un ballo in maschera, Tosca, La bohème, The Marriage of Figaro, Faust, and Tartuffe.

Ms. Sommerfield has designed props for San Francisco Shakespeare Company, Palo Alto Players, Peninsula Center Stage, Western Ballet, Aurora Theatre, Harker School, and Buddy, The Buddy Holly Show in San Francisco. She has also stage managed for several Bay Area theaters. Ms. Sommerfeld has a BA in French and History from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, an AA in Theatre from Foothill College, and an MA in Theatre from San Francisco State University.
