Theodore Weis, baritone, sings the role of Don Alfonso
in Così fan
tutte. Prior roles with West Bay Opera include
the title roles in Macbeth and The Marriage
of Figaro, and Dappertutto (The Tales of Hoffmann),
during the 1975-76 seasons, and Selim (The Turk
in Italy) in 1991.
More recent roles include Germont, Scarpia, Leporello,
Sharpless, Dr. Bartolo, the Sacristan, Dr. Malatesta,
and General DeLaBarca in the West Coast premiere of
Rodriguez’ La Curandera, with companies
including Festival Opera, Berkeley Opera, Livermore
Valley Opera, North Bay Opera, Cinnabar Opera, Townsend
Opera Players (Modesto), Pocket Opera, Utah Festival
Opera, and Diablo Light Opera Company. He has also
performed the roles of Tony in Loesser’s The
Most Happy Fella and Tevye in Fiddler on the
Roof, as well as oratorio solos with Bay Area
choruses and orchestras.
Dr. Weis, a Walnut Creek resident, has a 35 year career
in medicine (Nephrology), which is now part time, and
was founder and first president of The Arizona Opera
(1971) and The Festival Opera (1991). |
