Act I: Street Outside Dr. Bartolo’s House
 |
Flanked by the Zanni (Emma
Davis, Maggie McKenna, Elaine Beckett) Figaro (Jordan Shanahan) explains
that he is Seville’s
Master of All Trades: barber, wig-maker, surgeon, gardener, herbalist,
veterinarian…

 |
Count Almaviva (John Zuckerman) explains to Rosina (Sonia Gariaeff) in
a serenade that he is a poor student named Lindoro who adores her though
he cannot give her worldly treasure. |
 |
Almaviva (John Zuckerman) promises Figaro (Jordan Shanahan) a fat purse
if he can produce a brilliant idea from his volcanic brain that will get
Almaviva into Rosina’s
house. |
 |
Figaro (Jordan Shanahan) gives Almaviva (John Zuckerman) directions
to his shop, “Number 15, on the left, four steps, white in front, five wigs
in the window…” |
 |
Rosina (Sonia Gariaeff) decides that Lindoro shall be hers, and writes
him a note. |
 |
Figaro (Jordan Shanahan) promises Rosina (Robin De Leon) that Lindoro
will arrive as soon as he delivers her note. |
 |
Rosina (Robin De Leon) desperately tries to come up with an excuse that
will convince her guardian Dr. Bartolo (Michael Morris) that she did not
sharpen the quill to write a love note. |
 |
Aided by the Zanni (Maggie McKenna, Emma
Davis, Elaine Beckett), Don
Basilio (John Minagro) demonstrates to Dr. Bartolo
(Michael Morris) the power of slander to penetrate insidiously into the
brain, bewildering and confusing the mind. |
 |
Don
Basilio (John Minagro) shows Dr. Bartolo
(Michael Morris) that with efficient use of gossip and slander, Count Almaviva
could be humiliated and crushed under the public scourge, until he must
slink away to
die. |
 |
Almaviva (John Zuckerman), disguised as a drunken soldier in order to
see Rosina (Robin De Leon) insists that Dr. Bartolo (Michael Morris) honor
his billeting order. |
 |
Dr. Bartolo (Michael Morris) watches suspiciously as Almaviva in disguise
(John Zuckerman) offers him Rosina’s handkerchief while giving Rosina (Sonia
Gariaeff) the note it was concealing. |
 |
Dr. Bartolo (Michael Morris), Berta (Constance Howard), Rosina (Sonia
Gariaeff), Almaviva (John Zuckerman), and Don Basilio (John Minagro) are
horrified to hear the knock of the police at the door. |
 |
Dr. Bartolo (Michael Morris) tries to convince the Police Sergeant
(Hamid Najafi) to arrest the drunken soldier (John Zuckerman) who tries
to get a last word with Rosina (Sonia
Gariaeff). Figaro is just a blur as he rushes down the stairs to try and
save the situation. |
 |
Almaviva secretly reveals his true identity to the
Police Sergeant who then salutes the drunken soldier rather than arresting
him. Don Basilio (John Minagro), Dr. Bartolo (Michael Morris), Berta (Constance
Howard), and Rosina (Robin
De
Leon)
are frozen stiff like statues in shock. |
