The penniless Gherman is in love with an aristocratic young woman already engaged to a prince. He is determined to uncover the secret of the three cards that can make him rich. This gripping tale of obsessive gambling and ill-fated love is passionately brought to life with Tchaikovsky’s superbly dramatic score.
