Omar Gutierrez Crook, tenor, makes his West Bay Opera debut
singing the role of the Steersman in Der
fliegende Holländer.
Mr. Crook has appeared as a soloist on both the operatic and concert stage throughout the world. Most recently, he sang the role of Count Almaviva (The Barber of Seville) with Opera San José, des Grieux in the West Coast premier of Auber’s Manon Lescaut, and in Mozart’s Requiem in the Forbidden City in Beijing. He originated the role of Fervio in the world premier of Eric Whitacre’s Paradise Lost, and has performed many other operatic roles, including Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Alfredo (La traviata), Nemorino (The Elixir of Love), Tamino (The Magic Flute), the title role in Albert Herring, and in rare operas, such as Rita (Donizetti) and Goyescas (Granados).
Mr. Crook has appeared as a soloist with such ensembles as The Boston Pops, Pacific Chorale, John Alexander Singers, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. He received his formal training at California State University at Fullerton.
