Jean-François Revon
Jean-François Revon is the set designer for Carmen. He has been designing sets for West Bay Opera since 1995, including Così fan tutte, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, The Merry Widow, Macbeth, The Rake’s Progress, The Magic Flute, Lucia di Lammermoor, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Viva la mamma, Un ballo in maschera, Tosca, La bohème, Faust, Les contes d’Hoffmann, Così fan tutte, The Consul, Carmen, The Turn of the Screw, Don Pasquale, and The Barber of Seville. From 1993 to 2006, he was WBO’s Technical Director. Mr. Revon has designed over 250 sets since 1989, including the world première of The Tale of the Nutcracker for Opera San José. For Opera Santa Barbara, he designed Tosca, Suor Angelica, Gianni Schicchi, The Italian Girl in Algiers, Così fan tutte, Lucia di Lammermoor, La bohème, and Madama Butterfly. Other recent designs include La bohème for the Music Academy of the West, and The Girl of the Golden West and The Elixir of Love for Rimrock Opera in Montana. For North Bay Opera, he designed La bohème and Don Giovanni, which was nominated for the 1998 Artys for set design. He has recently been named General Manager of the San Francisco Lyric Opera, and also teaches at the Oakland School for the Arts. Mr. Revon started his design career in Paris, where he received a degree in scenic design from the École Supérieur des Arts et Techniques.
