Cantabile
Youth Singers

Founded in 1994 by Artistic Director Signe Boyer, Cantabile Youth Singers
is now under the artistic leadership of Elena Sharkova. Cantabile provides
a high-quality choral music experience through a curriculum that emphasizes
music theory, vocal training, and combined choral-instrumental performance,
utilizing a wide variety of traditional, modern, and commissioned music.
Cantabile Youth Singers has four graduated choir levels, serving children
ages 7-18 from all over the Bay Area. In addition to regular weekly classes
and rehearsals, activities include quarterly training workshops, as well
as weekend and week-long retreats to build musical skills, such as vocal
production, diction, language, deportment, movement, and dance, as well
as music theory, reading, interpretation, and history.
Cantabile Youth
Singers tour both nationally and internationally. In 2005, the Vocalise
and Ensemble choirs participated in the National Children’s Choir
Festival and presented a performance in Carnegie Hall with Elena Sharkova as
guest conductor. In 2003, the Vocalise choir participated in its third European
tour, traveling to Hungary and Austria where they spent a training day with the
Vienna Boys Choir.
In addition to presenting annual Winter and Spring concerts,
Cantabile Youth Singers perform throughout the community with a wealth
of Bay Area choral and orchestral organizations. Cantabile is a member
of the Foothills College Performing Arts Alliance and the Cantabile Choral
Guild.
