Line

MaryMary Chun is the music director for The Rake’s Progress. In her West Bay Opera debut, she conducted La traviata in the fall of 2000.

In demand as an opera conductor and champion of new music, San Franciscan Mary Chun was chosen by composer John Adams to conduct the première of his earthquake romance I was Looking at the Ceiling and then I saw the Sky in Paris, Hamburg, and Montreal with the Finnish ensemble AVANTI! Other collaborations include special projects with the San Francisco Symphony, “Keeping Score” television series, and recording projects with composers James Berenholtz, Peter Allen, Jorge Liderman, and Cindy Cox, in addition to film and commercial recording.

Ms. Chun has conducted in France, Germany, and Belgium, and also toured throughout Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Eastern Europe with the Kosice State Opera. She has conducted at Cleveland Lyric Opera, Hawaii Opera Theater, Opera Idaho, San Francisco Opera (cover), and numerous regional opera companies in California. She appeared on the Monday Evening Concert Series in Los Angeles with the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players and has been a member of the conducting staffs of notable opera companies in the US and France, including San Francisco Opera, the Los Angeles Opera, Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Chatelet Theatre, and Opera de Lyon.
