Michele Detwiler

Michele Detwiler makes her debut with West Bay Opera in the role of the Mother of Antonia. Last year, she received her Bachelor of Music at Sacramento State University, and made her professional debuts with Apollo Opera and Sacramento Opera as the Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte) and Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), respectively. She has also appeared with San Francisco Lyric Opera as Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos and Fricka in Das Rheingold, and Die Walküre. A Regional Finalist in the 2000 Met Competition, the mezzo-soprano has also sung the solos in Saint-Saëns' Christmas Oratorio, Handel's Messiah, and Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. Mrs. Detwiler was recently engaged with Opera San José to sing Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, and Azucena in Il trovatore. She will also participate in their Resident Artist Program as a principal artist beginning in the Fall of 2002.
