Barbara Divis
Barbara Divis returns to West Bay Opera, after singing Violetta (La traviata), and most recently, Amelia (Un ballo in maschera). As one of opera’s outstanding up and coming stars, Ms. Divis has performed 30 roles in her young career. With her acclaimed versatile range, Barbara is known particularly for roles that demonstrate her captivating lyric soprano voice through an impressive lower range. Having performed in operas ranging from the baroque (Romilda in Handel’s Xerxes), to the modern (Carlisle Floyd’s Of Mice and Men and Anne Trulove in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress), Divis demonstrates her remarkable vocal flexibility. With rave reviews, Ms. Divis is highly regarded in the world of opera for her roles such as Violetta, Micaëla (Carmen), Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Marguerite (Faust), Nedda (Pagliacci), and Mimì (La bohème). Highlighting her career have been performances with opera companies in San Diego, San José, Santa Barbara, Nevada, Tacoma, and West Bay Opera. For her concert appearances, Ms. Divis has been the featured soloist with symphonies in San Diego, San José, Fort Worth, and the Sinfonica de Mineria of Mexico City. With such demonstrated talent, she is set to make her mark in the realms of operatic performance throughout the world. Upcoming events include her debut with Austin Lyric Opera as Liù (Turandot) , and Micaëla (Carmen), as well as First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), both with San Diego Opera in 2006.
