Mark Foehringer
Mark Foehringer is the choreographer for The Merry Widow. Previous productions with West Bay Opera include The Queen of Spades, Manon Lescaut, and The Magic Flute. Creating dances since 1982, Mr. Foehringer has produced for Mark Foehringer Dance Project/SF, now in its 12th year, and for Western Ballet, The Mountain View Ballet Company and School, where he held the position of Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer from 1997 to 2006. Mr. Foehringer has created over 50 works for dance companies in Brazil, California, and New York. He began his dance studies in São Paulo, Brazil, where his parents were Lutheran missionaries. Born in Minnesota, raised in Brazil, he was awarded a scholarship for early studies with the Royal Academy of Dance, São Paulo. He continued training in New York, London, and San Francisco. He joined the Cisne Negro Dance Company, São Paulo, in 1977 with which he performed throughout South America and Europe for 10 years, and where he later became Assistant Director. Besides contemporary works, he has performed in ballets such as Nutcracker, Coppelia, La fille mal gardée, Swan Lake, and Sleeping Beauty.
