Sonia Gariaeff
Sonia Gariaeff, mezzo-soprano, sings the role of Annio in La clemenza di Tito. Previous roles with West Bay Opera include Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Siebel (Faust), and Nicklausse/Muse (Les contes d’Hoffman). Ms. Gariaeff has been featured in numerous venues in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. Her signature roles include Dorabella, Nicklausse, Siebel, Rosina, and the title roles of La Cenerentola and Ariodante. As a member of Portland Opera’s Young Artist program, she made her company mainstage debut as the Voice of Antonia’s Mother in Les contes d’Hoffmann. Ms. Gariaeff has performed regularly with Pocket Opera, Bayshore Lyric Opera, Festival Opera, and Berkeley Opera. Ms. Gariaeff was recently awarded the Grand Prize in the Carmel Music Society Vocal Competition. She was a National Grand Finalist in the Loren L. Zachary Competition and was selected as a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Awards in both 2000 and 2003. Her oratorio and concert work includes Handel’s Messiah, which she performed at Davies Symphony Hall, Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, Pergolesi ’s Stabat mater, and Bach’s Magnificat. Ms. Gariaeff received her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She resides in San Francisco.
