Ross Halper
Ross Halper, tenor, sings the role of Baron Mirko Zeta in The
Merry Widow.
Previous roles with West Bay Opera include
Fatty (The
Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny),
Nika Magadoff (The
Consul),
Monostatos (The Magic
Flute),
Governor (Candide),
Steersman (The Flying Dutchman), and
Mr. Upfold (Albert Herring).
Favorites among Mr. Halper’s 250 roles include both Mimes in the Ring cycle, the Witch (Hansel and Gretel), Vasek (The Bartered Bride), and Mr. Owen (Argento, Postcard from Morocco). He has toured the world in Phantom of the Opera. He also appears in his own character tenor recital, Gods and Goblins. He is also nationally known as a stage director (Utah Opera, Eugene Opera, Pacific Repertory Opera) and opera translator. In July, he will direct Mechem’s Tartuffe for BASOTI in San Francisco’s Legion of Honor and, in April 2008, he will direct Così fan tutte for North Bay Opera.
Mr. Halper teaches opera acting at Mannes College in New York and Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
