Daniel Helfgot
Mr. Helfgot is known for a directorial career that spans over 170 operatic productions in Germany, Austria, Argentina, Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada, and throughout the US for companies in Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Memphis, Orlando, Utah, Sacramento, Knoxville, and many others. Future engagements include Madama Butterfly in Argentina and Porgy and Bess for the Utah Festival Opera. In the operatic academic field, Mr. Helfgot teaches at San José State University; held a guest professorship at the Musikhochschule of the University in Vienna; taught at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, at the National Academy for the Arts in Taiwan; and directed the Opera Program at the Music Academy of the West, and at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. He is also a frequent guest at many of the prestigious institutions for the training of singers. The opera The Tale of the Nutcracker with Mr. Helfgot’s libretto was premiered in 1999. He also authored The Third Line: the Singer as Interpreter, a book widely used by performers and in academic circles.
