Lisa Houston
Lisa Houston, mezzo-soprano, makes her West Bay Opera debut singing the role of Third Lady in The Magic Flute. Ms. Houston has performed leading roles with opera companies throughout California, including Pacific Repertory Opera, Capitol Opera Sacramento, Cinnabar Opera Theatre, San Francisco Camerata, San Francisco Lyric Opera, and Townsend Opera. Her operatic roles include Carmen, Nicklausse (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Augusta Tabor (The Ballad of Baby Doe), and the world premier of the title role in Franzetti and Moscovich’s Corpus Evita. As an actress, Ms. Houston performed in New York and throughout Europe in Robert Wilson’s Obie award-winning production of Hamletmachine, as well as his production of Salome at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Acting from N.Y.U. and a Master’s degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. This fall Ms. Houston will compete as a semi-finalist in the International Opera Singer Competition of the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York City. She is a native of Berkeley, a recipient of the Bay Area Performing Arts Fellowship, and has just completed her first recording on CD.
