Helena Janzén

Line

Helena Janzén, soprano, makes her West Bay Opera debut singing the role of Lady Macbeth in Macbeth.

In Sweden, Ms. Janzén has performed the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel) and Helène (Chabrier, Une éducation manquée) in Karlskrona, Neferneurere (Glass, Akhnaten) in Ystad, and the title role in Rusalka at the Malmö concert hall. In addition to performances at international opera festivals, she has performed Leonora (Il trovatore) at Teatro Principal in Spain, Constanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at Clausholms Castle in Denmark, and Violetta (La traviata) at Opera Island (second cast).

Contemporary music has always played an important role in Ms. Janzén’s musical repertoire and several pieces have been written by leading composers with her voice in mind. “Silvernatten” (The Silvernight), by the internationally famous Swedish composer Rolf Martinsson, was composed for Ms. Janzén and the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. She was also cast for the original performance of Unander-Scharin’s Pumpgropen in Stockholm.

In October 2004, Ms. Janzén won 1st prize in The International Opera Singers Competition of the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York, and in February 2006, she made her debut at Carnegie Hall.
