West Bay Opera
Jillian Khuner
Jillian Khuner is well known to Bay Area opera audiences.
She has appeared three times before with West Bay Opera,
portraying Marguerite in Faust, the title role in Suor Angelica,
and Magda in last season's production of Menotti's The Consul.
Ms. Khuner appears often with other companies as well.
She has sung the role of Magda with Pacific Repertory
Opera, and has presented major roles in eleven Berkeley Opera productions,
most recently
the three heroines in Tales of Hoffmann this past July,
the title role in Verdi's Luisa Miller and Mme. Lidoine
in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites. Other Berkeley Opera
appearances include Mimi in La bohème, Gretel, and the
title roles in Martha, Madama Butterfly, La traviata,
Rusalka, and Manon Lescaut. Ms. Khuner recently sang the
title role of Tosca with San Francisco Lyric Opera.
Ms. Khuner's first and principal teacher was Frank Baker at Bennington
College, Vermont. Later she studied with Jan de Gaetani at the Eastman
School of Music. Ms. Khuner made her San Francisco Opera debut as the
Novice in Suor Angelica in 1990. She spent the 1992-93
season in Israel, where she performed arias with the Tel Aviv Symphony in
three operatic programs. Upon her return she was the soprano soloist in
Beethoven's C-Major Mass with the University of California (Berkeley)
Chorus and Orchestra. In 1994 she was the featured soloist with the
San Francisco Chamber Orchestra in the Shostakovich Symphony #14.
In the last three seasons she has sung the soprano solos in Verdi's
Requiem, Mozart's C-Minor Mass,
and Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with the Berkeley Community
Chorus and Orchestra.
