Matthias Kuntzsch
Maestro Kuntzsch, Music Director of the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute since its inception, is a leading conductor of German and Italian repertoire, and a noted teacher and conductor of Mozart. He has been Principal Conductor at Munich National Theater, Hamburg State Opera, and National Theater Mannheim, and General Music Director at Lübeck Opera and Philharmonic and Saarbrücken State Opera and Symphony. A noted Wagnerian conductor, he has conducted Tristan und Isolde in Paris, Trieste, Teheran, and elsewhere. He has been a guest conductor at Colorado Symphony, Buffalo Symphony, and Utah Symphony orchestras. He has also conducted with Opera Colorado, Utah, San Diego, Sacramento, Portland, OR, Columbus, OH, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Vancouver Operas (Fidelio, Macbeth, The Flying Dutchman, Carmen, The Magic Flute, Die Fledermaus, Le nozze di Figaro, Hansel and Gretel, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, Manon Lescaut, Don Pasquale, and Nabucco).
