West Bay Opera
Wendy Loder
Wendy Loder appears in all three West Bay Opera productions this season,
as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Gilda in Rigoletto,
and Cunegonde in Candide. Her first role at West Bay Opera
was Fiorilla in the 1991 production of Rossini's The Turk in Italy.
Ms. Loder appeared in her first leading role as Blondchen in Mozart's
Abduction from the Seraglio. Since then she has delighted Bay Area
audiences with her portrayals of Frasquita, Adèle, Adina, Fiorella,
Miss Sweetsong, Olympia, Cunegonde, The Dew Fairy, and Nanetta.
In addition to appearing with West Bay Opera, Berkeley Opera, and Cinnabar
Opera Theatre, Ms. Loder has sung with the Marin Symphony and was featured
as the soprano soloist in Orff's Carmina Burana with the Fremont-Newark
Philharmonic. Last December, she appeared as Gretel in
Hänsel and Gretel with the Fremont Symphony.
Other Bay Area performances have included solos in the Poulenc Gloria
with the Golden Gate Seminary Chorus and Orchestra, and Mozart's Grand
Mass with the San Francisco Choral Society.
Ms. Loder is a semi-finalist in the 1996 Zachary Competition, and was recently
awarded the Grand Prize in the Bella Resak Competition. She has
received other awards from the Marin Symphony, the Marin Music Chest, the San
Francisco Musical Club, and the Pacific Musical Society. In addition to her singing, Ms. Loder is an accomplished violinist.
