West Bay Opera
Lars Mellander
Lars is happy to be making his debut as Alfredo Germont with West Bay
Opera. A former commercial fisherman and native of the Pacific Northwest,
he has sung over twenty-five roles as a baritone before becoming a
tenor in 1997. His most recent performances include Gaylord Ravenal
with Washington East Opera and leading roles in two new works:
La Mamma Carlotta and The Belles of Notre Dame,
with the Lyceum Theater in San Diego and the Pacific Design Center
in Los Angeles. Lars was the tenor for the 1998-99 San Diego Opera Ensemble
and has performed a number of concert works throughout Southern California.
Mr. Mellander has also spent two summers with the Ohio Light Opera
and in 1995 was a Fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival.
Having a great interest in contemporary music, he has performed a
number of world premieres and has been privileged to work with
several great American artists, including John Cage, Carlisle Floyd,
Lucas Foss, Robert Ward and Phyllis Curtin.
Mr. Mellander currently resides in San Diego.
