John P. Minágro

JohnJohn P. Minágro, bass, sings the role of Count Tomsky in The Queen of Spades. Previous roles with West Bay Opera include Banquo and the Doctor ( Macbeth), Sarastro and Speaker (The Magic Flute), Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Tom (Un ballo in maschera), and Méphistophélès (Faust).

Mr. Minágro’s favorite roles include Amonasro (Aïda), Pogner (Die Meistersinger), Michele (Il tabarro), King René (Iolanta), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Tonio (Pagliacci), Frére Laurent (Roméo et Juliette), Scarpia (Tosca), and the title roles in Aleko, Gianni Schicchi, and Russlan and Ludmilla. His concert work includes Porgy in Porgy and Bess, Bernstein’s Mass, the Verdi and Fauré Requiems, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. He was in the cast of The Phantom of the Opera in San Francisco, and has performed at Lincoln Center, the Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle, and the Concord Pavilion. He was guest soloist with San Francisco Symphony’s Summer Broadway Pops, and performs annually in Osaka, Japan. He has covered roles with San Francisco Opera, including Astrodamors (Ligeti, Le Grand Macabre).

Mr. Minágro can be heard on CD singing the role of Juan Peron in the Grammy-nominated Corpus Evita, and “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch!” on Christmas Center Stage.
