ArielaAriela Morgenstern, mezzo-soprano, sings the role of Mother Goose in The Rake’s Progress. Her previous roles with West Bay Opera include Jenny (The Threepenny Opera) and Mastrella and Brambilla (La Périchole).

Ms. Morgenstern’s opera credits include the title role in Carmen with the San Francisco Lyric Opera, U.C. Santa Cruz, and Bay Shore Lyric Opera, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) with Pacific Repertory Opera, Hansel (Hansel and Gretel) with Opera A La Carte, and Siebel (Faust) with Livermore Valley Opera. Next November, she will be singing the role of Bertha (The Barber of Seville) at Opera San José. She was the featured soloist in the Carnegie Hall première of Imant Raminsh’s Symphony of Psalms. On the flip side, she is well known in San Francisco’s nightlife, often found singing Weimar-era cabaret or her own vaudevillian acts at various venues.

Ms. Morgenstern sings regularly with Charming Hostess, the nerdy, commie, girlie a capella group led by Jewlia Eisenberg, as well as the cabaret trio of opera singers-gone-underground, Girlkulture. Since its inception, she has also co-produced, written, and performed with the sketch comedy and political satire troupe Rococo Risqué, which was honored to win the 2005 Best Theatre Ensemble award from the SF Weekly.
