Michael
Morris, baritone, sings the title role
in Macbeth. Mr. Morris has
been performing, conducting, and teaching in the Bay Area for some 28 years.
He has performed lead roles
in nearly 60
operas, operettas, and Broadway musicals. This production marks his
20th leading
role with West Bay Opera. Prior roles include Doctor Bartolo (Il
barbiere di Siviglia), Don Pedro (La
Périchole), Sam (Un
ballo in maschera), Scarpia (Tosca),
Méphistophélès (Faust),
Lindorf/Coppelius/Dappertutto/Dr. Miracle (Les
contes d’Hoffman), Germont (La
traviata), the Dutchman (Der fliegende Holländer), Don
Alfonso (Così fan tutte), and Tonio (Pagliacci). Mr.
Morris has also performed with Opera San José, Opera Peninsula, Rogue
Valley Opera, and Donald Pippin’s
Pocket Opera.
Mr. Morris is an active concert soloist and has performed
with the San José Wind Symphony, Redwood Symphony, Master Sinfonia
Orchestra, Contra Costa Chorale, Schola Cantorum, Oakland Symphony Chorus,
and Santa
Clara Chorale. He has worked under the batons of conductors Robert
Page,
Sir David Willcocks, Paul Leddington Wright, Susan Webb, Henry Mollicone,
Davis Sloss, Gregory Wait, Darrell Johnston, and Mary Chun, and with
stage directors Daniel Helfgot, David Ostwald, Jonathan Field, and Christopher
Harlan of Los Angeles Opera.
