Olstad

Bruce
Olstad is the chorus master for Macbeth.
He joined West Bay Opera last season as rehearsal pianist for The Magic
Flute and chorus master for The
Rake’s
Progress. He is currently in his fourth season
as Chorus Master at Opera San José, where his choruses have performed
in Un
ballo in maschera, La bohème, The Flying Dutchman, Carmen, Tosca, Don
Pasquale, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, Les pêcheurs
de perles, and Die Fledermaus, among others. This is
his sixth season on the artistic staff of Opera San José, where
he also serves as vocal coach and rehearsal pianist. He also serves
as vocal coach and pianist for the opera workshop at San José State
University and practices as a private vocal coach.
Before moving from
Los Angeles in 2000, Mr. Olstad was a faculty member at Loyola Marymount
University in Los Angeles, where he served as vocal coach and accompanist
for the opera workshop, as accompanist for the choral program, and
as instructor in musicianship classes. In 1999, he was awarded an opera
coaching fellowship to the Aspen Music School. He holds a Masters Degree
in Keyboard Collaborative Arts from USC and Bachelor of Arts degree
in Music from UCLA.
