West Bay Opera
John Rathman
Mr. Rathman has been West Bay Opera's Resident Lighting Designer, and
sometimes Scenic Designer, for the past thirteen years. His settings include
the recent Rigoletto, La Traviata, Carmen, and Norma, as well as
Madama Butterfly, La Cenerentola, Der Freischütz,
Emperor Norton, and Cavalleria Rusticana. His favorite recent
lighting designs include The Marriage of Figaro, The Turk in
Italy, and Faust. His designs have been seen at TheaterWorks,
Opera San José, Anchorage Opera, and Festival Opera of Walnut Creek.
His work has won six Bay Area Critics Awards for lighting design, as well
as three design citations by the L.A. DramaLogue. His commercial lighting
designs include the renovated Stanford Movie Theater and the conference
facilities for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
