Clifton Romig
An alumnus of the renowned Resident Artist Program
at Opera San José, Clifton Romig made his debut with that company in
1993 as Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, and over the next four
years sang leading roles in Tartuffe, Rigoletto,
Don Giovanni, Les pêcheurs de perles, Carmen,
Così fan tutte, La traviata, Eugene Onegin,
Die Fledermaus, Le nozze de Figaro, Madama Butterfly,
Serse, Faust, and La bohème.
He debuted with West Bay Opera in 1998 as Mustafà in
The Italian Girl in Algiers.
Mr. Romig has also performed with Eugene Opera, Opera Colorado, the Fresno
Philharmonic, the Ventura County Symphony, the Mendocino Music Festival,
the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, and the Santa Fé Opera.
His operatic travels have taken him to Germany and on a
trip to Maui, where he performed various roles in Plump Jack, an
opera by Bay Area composer Gordon Getty.
His repertoire includes the roles of Blitch in Carlisle Floyd's
Susannah, Sarastro, Leporello, and principal roles in
Die Meistersinger, Wozzeck, La Fanciulla del West,
and Tosca.
Mr. Romig has a degree in German from Middlebury College and received
his Masters in Music from the Indiana University School of Music.
He has worked with conductors Kent Nagano, Maron Alsop,
John Crosby, George Manahan, John Fiore, and coaches/teachers
Craig Rutenberg, Marilyn Horne, and Mignon Dunne.
Cliff lives in San Francisco with his wife, Susan, and their two cats,
Sophie and Lucy. In his spare time
he enjoys running, mountain biking and cooking.
