Richard Rovin

``It's a miracle!'' says opera great Diana Soviero upon the arrival of Richard Rovin on the the opera scene. Rovin comes with an intriguing career chronicle. Always an opera afficionado, Rovin began his vocal career in musical theater. During his college years he appeared in New York productions of The Mikado, Pajama Game, and Oklahoma! He made numerous guest appearances with the Westchester Pops and the Hudson Valley Symphony as their featured soloist.

Family needs led Rovin out of theater, and for many years he enjoyed a successful career in marketing, but the call of his first love, opera, remained foremost in his heart. This compeling drive resulted in his leaving the corporate world, and in the summer of 1995 he set out to realize his operatic ambitions.

Rovin began an intense program of study and total immersion in operatic training in both the U.S. and Europe. He won the attention and acclaim of many prestigious teachers, including Carlo Bergonzi ('96), Jerome Hines ('96-'98), Maria Chiara and Gianni Raimondi ('97), and Giovanni Consiglio ('98 - present). Rovin's talents have been enthusiastically recognized and lauded by the Metropolitan Opera's former Artistic Administrator, Charles Riecker, and L'Opéra de Montreal's General and Artistic Director Bernard Uzan, among many others.

In the last three years, Rovin has appeared in Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Mexico, and the United States, performing the roles of Amonasro, Scarpia, Germont, Sharpless, Don Alfonso, and Enrico. In 1999, Rovin won first place in the Orvieto Music Festival vocal competition. He recently returned from a highly successful concert tour of several Italian cities, where his programs were broadcast on Italy's classical television channel.
