Nikolaus Schiffmann
Nikolaus
Schiffmann makes his West Bay Opera debut singing the role of Masetto in Don
Giovanni. Mr. Schiffmann received his Bachelor of Music degree from
UC Santa Cruz in 2002, where he appeared on the stage as Escamillo (Carmen),
Doctor Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore), and in the
title role of Gianni Schicchi. He made his professional debut
with Bay Shore Lyric Opera in 2000, where he has performed as the Bonze
(Madama
Butterfly), Moralès (Carmen), Alidoro (La Cenerentola),
and Zuniga (Carmen). He has also sung with the San Francisco
Lyric Opera as Masetto (Don Giovanni) and Schaunard (La
bohème).
This past winter, Mr. Schiffmann was in residence at Portland Opera, where he performed as Colline (La bohème) in opera outreach for Oregon schools. He made his home-town debut with Opera Santa Barbara last fall as the Imperial Commissioner in Madama Butterfly. Mr. Schiffmann is a cantor at the Santa Barbara Mission, and will be offering a recital of Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin at the Music Academy of the West this summer.
