Sloss

David
Sloss served as West Bay Opera’s General Director from 1998–2005.
He has been associated with the company in many capacities since
1981. He conducted 30 West Bay Opera productions, including La clemenza
di Tito, Don Giovanni, Il
barbiere di Siviglia, Viva la mamma, The Marriage of Figaro, Tartuffe, The
Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny,
Così fan tutte, The Italian Girl in Algiers, The
Turn of the Screw, The Magic Flute, and Candide.
He has also served as Stage Director for productions of Carmen, Il
trovatore, The Barber of Seville, and Lucia di Lammermoor.
Mr. Sloss has served as the Music Director and Conductor of the Fremont
Symphony since 1980. He has conducted operas for Berkeley Opera, the
Lamplighters, the
San Francisco
Talent Bank, and the Oakland Symphony. Other conducting appearances have
included the Peninsula Symphony, Stanford Symphony, the Stanford Chamber
Orchestra, ALEA
II, and
the Vallejo Symphony. Maestro Sloss is Professor Emeritus of Music at Sonoma
State University, having retired after 27 years of teaching in
order to devote himself to West Bay Opera. While on the faculty there
he also directed
the Center for Performing Arts and the Opera Workshop. Prior to his appointment
at Sonoma State University, Maestro Sloss worked as a
producer and director for WGBH-TV in Boston, where he received an Emmy nomination
for the National Educational Television series A Roomful of Music.
He holds degrees in music from Harvard College and Stanford University.
