Barbara Staffen
Recent opera roles include Adalgisa (Norma) with Center Stage Opera in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Cecily (Pasatieri, La Divina) and Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte) with the Opera Company of Brooklyn. Other roles include Madame Larina (Eugene Onegin) and Annina (La traviata) with DVO/Hudson Opera Theater, the Witch (Hansel and Gretel) with Commonwealth Opera and Bowen Park Opera, La Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica, cover), Katisha (The Mikado), the Duchess (The Gondoliers), Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas), Carmen, Mrs. Herring (Albert Herring), Fenena (Nabucco), and Háta (The Bartered Bride). Ms. Staffen recently made her international debut as the alto soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Yamagata Symphony in Fukushima, Japan. Other concert work includes the Mozart Requiem, Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, and Beethoven’s Mass in C Major with the Middletown City Chorale, Middletown, New York, Bach’s Magnificat with the Bach Society of Minnesota, Handel’s Messiah and Judas Maccabaeus, Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. A native of Chicago, Ms. Staffen completed her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
