Paul Thompson
Paul Thompson, bass, sings the role of the Commendatore in Don Giovanni. Previous roles with West Bay Opera include Orazio Prospero in Viva la mamma and Dr. Grenvil in La traviata. A San Francisco resident, Mr. Thompson studied Environmental Science at U.C. Berkeley and Voice at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Performance highlights include the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), the title role in Don Pasquale, Superintendant Budd (Albert Herring), Dandini (La Cenerentola), the Sergeant of Police (Pirates of Penzance), Pooh-Bah (The Mikado), Ariodate (Xerxes), Angelotti (Tosca), as well as roles in La traviata, Rigoletto, Tales of Hoffman, Lucrezia Borgia, and La belle Hélène. Mr. Thompson has performed with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Opera San José, Eugene Opera, Nevada Opera Theater, Donald Pippin’s Pocket Opera, Bay Shore Lyric Opera of Capitola, Opera Piccola of Bremen, Lamplighters, Santa Cruz Bay City Opera, and Livermore Valley Opera. His concert repertoire includes solos in Mozart’s Requiem and C minor mass, Handel’s Messiah, Verdi’s Requiem, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, and Purcell’s Ode to Queen Mary. He has participated in the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute, and in the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.
