Piet Van Allen
Piet Van Allen, tenor, makes his West Bay Opera debut singing the roles of the Dancing Master and the Lamplighter in Manon Lescaut. Mr. Van Allen has appeared on the stages of the San Francisco Opera, Pocket Opera, Opera San José, and most recently as Tinca in Berkeley Opera’s production of Il tabarro. He was tenor soloist for the Community Music Center’s Beethoven Ninth, and with the Monterey Symphony Chorus and Orchestra’s recent holiday concerts. Mr. Van Allen began musical studies in Indianapolis, in a public school summer program of piano, folk dance, and children’s operetta, and continued with viola and choirs through high school, Western Michigan University, and the Royal Conservatory of Music of Brussels. He has sung as a soloist for the Chappelle des Minimes Bach Cantata Society and the Symphony Chorus of Kansas City, and played with Belgian radio and television, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek orchestras. He has been teaching and conducting school and theater orchestras and bands.
