Indre Viskontas, soprano, makes her West Bay Opera debut singing the role of a grisette in The Merry Widow.

Miss Viskontas was recently heard singing the title role in Iolanthe with the Lyric Theater of San José. Her other roles include the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Miss Pinkerton (Menotti, The Old Maid and the Thief), Torbisco (Offenbach, Les bavards), and Cobweb (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). She made her professional oratorio debut in 2006 singing the Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio with the Mission Dolores Choir. This summer, she will sing the role of Kate in Frobisher, a new opera by Murrell and Estacio, co-commissioned and co-produced by Calgary Opera and the Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta.

Miss Viskontas began her musical training at the Royal Conservatory of Music in her native Canada. She is currently completing her Master of Music in Voice Performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and was a 2007 winner in the East Bay Opera League Scholarship Competition. She also holds a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from UCLA.
