Der fliegende Holländer

This production requires a large chorus. Open auditions for all parts were held on Sunday, March 16, 2-4 PM. However we are still looking for a couple tenors for the on-stage (Norwegian sailors) chorus and men of all voice parts for the off-stage (Dutchman's crew) chorus. Interested men should contact the chorus manager. Those who have already auditioned this season will not have to re-audition.

All singers, new and returning, who would like to participate in Der fliegende Holländer should contact the chorus manager; new singers should indicate which part they usually sing, and a phone number at which they may be reached on the day of the auditions. Singers should come at the start of the auditions (2 PM on Sunday); if this is not possible please indicate when you do expect to arrive.

Chorus Composition

We are looking for a "regular" chorus of about 12 each men and women who will sing and be staged throughout the opera. In addition several more men will be needed to sing the Ghost chorus (offstage only, beginning on p. 209 in the Schirmer score).

Audition Format

Audition material will consist of an excerpt from the opera. In the Schirmer score, it runs from the last system on p. 194 through the 2nd measure of the last system on p. 197. The excerpt may be downloaded from this page: printable and midi sound file. See also this word-for-word translation.

Singers should be prepared to sing their usual line solo and in small ensembles in the language of the production (German). It is not necessary to memorize the excerpt. Watch this space for more details as they become available.
