"To sing is an expression of your being"Since 1984 West Bay Opera's children outreach program, Opera in the Schools (OITS), has been bringing opera performances (in English, grades 1-8) to local schools throughout the Peninsula and South Bay. In recent seasons, we have performed the following works of the standard opera repertoire:
This year's program is Gaetano Donizetti's The Elixir of Love. The opera is abridged into a 45-minute version, retaining the basic story line and the most popular arias. Professional singers and an accompanist arrive with portable staging and costumes, specially designed for traveling from school to school. Speaking and singing roles are included for students, and special, slip-on costumes are created for them, as well. Scheduling of performances (which happen from January through May) takes place during the months of September and October. |
