Pique Dame Cast Bios

Michael Boley, tenor, makes his West Bay Opera debut singing the role of Hermann in Pique Dame. Recent performance highlights include, Calaf (Turandot) with Mississippi Opera, Rodolfo (La bohème) with New York City Opera, Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) with Silicon Valley Opera, Hoffmann (Les contes d’Hoffmann) with Opera Tampa(c) and Cavaradossi (Tosca) with Opera San Jose(c). Mr. Boley has performed principal assignments for New York City Opera, Opera San Jose, Mississippi Opera, Little Opera Company of New York, Opera Charleston, Opera Columbus, among others.

Rhoslyn Jones, soprano,  returns to West Bay Opera to make her role debut as Liza in Pique Dame. She has performed with The San Francisco Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Arizona Opera, Vancouver Opera and Chicago Opera Theater, among others. She has also performed with Alabama Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Anchorage Symphony, and others. She is a former Adler Fellow and holds degrees from The Curtis Institute and The University of British Columbia. She is currently on faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and most recently was appointed as faculty for the Adler Fellows. She also serves on the faculty of The Chautauqua Institute, The Banff Center for Arts and Creativity, The Curtis Institute, and will join the voice faculty this summer at the San Francisco Opera Merola Program. Her first appearance at West Bay Opera was as Anne Truelove in The Rake's Progress.

Jonathan Beyer,  baritone, makes his West Bay Opera debut singing Yeletsky in Pique Dame.  He has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, Dallas Opera, Teatro Petruzzelli, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Oper Frankfurt, Dallas Opera, Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Opera de Montreal, Pittsburgh Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Hong Kong, Royal Opera Oman, Hawaii Opera Theater, and Aix-en-Provence. He has also appeared with the Chicago Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic and others. He has given recitals through the Carnegie Hall Foundation, Vocal Arts Society, the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, among others. He has degrees from the Curtis Institute and Roosevelt University. Mr. Beyer was a National Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Competition. He was the 1st Place Winner at the Marian Anderson Prize, George London Foundation, Sullivan Foundation, McCammon Competition and others. He has also appeared on the Food Network and HGTV. In addition to being a judge for the Miss America Organization, he also co-hosts the figure skating YouTube channel The Skating Lesson.

Kiril Havezov,  bass-baritone,  sings the role of Tomsky in Pique Dame. At West Bay Opera, he has appeared in the title role in Gianni Schicchi as well in the roles of Schaunard (La bohème), Zuñiga (Carmen), Don Fernando (Fidelio), Antonio (Le nozze di Figaro), Monterone (Rigoletto), Bonzo (Madama Butterfly), Pistola (Falstaff), Second Soldier (Salome) and Talpa (Il tabarro). A native of Sofia, Bulgaria, Mr. Havezov has performed regularly with the largest opera theatres in Bulgaria, including Sofia National Opera and Bulgarian National Music Theatre. Since his debut on the American opera stage, on September 2014, he has performed in more than 30 opera productions for Bay Area companies like Opera San Jose, West Bay Opera, Livermore Valley Opera, New Opera NYC, Island City Opera and Pocket Opera. Other major roles performed by Mr. Havezov over the last few years includes Count di Luna (Il trovatore), Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Zupan (The Gypsy Baron), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Belcore (L’elisir d’amore), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro) and many more.


Laure de Marcellus,  mezzo-soprano, makes makes her West Coast, Russian repertoire and West Bay opera debuts singing the role of the Countess in Pique Dame. Ms. de Marcellus sung the role of Carmen and Dalila with Opéra Sudio de Genève in Geneva, Brangaene (Tristan und Isolde) with the Volkstheater in Rostock, Germany and honed her craft at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, where she sang multiple roles like Maddalena (Rigoletto), Smeton (Anna Bolena) and Grimgerde (Die Walkuere) and the Third Lady (Die Zauberfloete). A native of Geneva, Switzerland, her concert repertoire has led her to sing The Messiah, Beethoven’s 9th and the Verdi Requiem with symphony orchestras in Spain, Austria, Serbia, Singapore and Switzerland. An enthusiastic recitalist, she is currently touring with a concert celebrating the release of her first CD, Pauline Inspired, an album of French and Spanish romantic melodies, recently heard in San Francisco, Madrid and Geneva. Ms de Marcellus is an avid reader of historical biographies and loves to bake.

Mariya Kaganskaya,  mezzo-soprano, makes her West Bay Opera debut singing the role of Polina in Pique Dame. Ms. Kaganskaya’s appearances this season include Beppe (L’amico Fritz) with Teatro Grattacielo, Rowan in the world premiere of Sally Lamb McCune’s We Wear the Sea Like a Coat with Opera Ithaca, and a debut as the soloist in Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky cantata with the Russian Music Festival. She premiered the role of Teacher in Mason Bates’ The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs with the Santa Fe Opera, the recording of which earned the GRAMMY for Best Opera Recording. Other recent roles include Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Paula (Florencia en el Amazonas), Page (Salome), and understudy for Charlotte (Werther) at Florida Grand Opera, Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) and Tisbe (La cenerentola) at Arizona Opera, Hostess (Boris Godunov) and Marta (Iolanta) with New Opera NYC, Olga (Eugene Onegin) at the Russian Opera Workshop, and Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti), Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea), and the title role in Serse at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Anna Yelizarova,  mezzo-soprano, returns to West Bay Opera to sing the role of the Governess in Pique Dame. She has appeared at WBO as Mercedes (Carmen), Zita (Gianni Schicchi), Madame Larina (Eugene Onegin), and Maddalena (Rigoletto). Ms. Yelizarova has performed over twenty-five roles, including Angelina and Tisbe (La cenerentola), the title role in Carmen, Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Azucena (Il trovatore), Olga (Eugene Onegin), Marina and Fyodor (Boris Godunov), Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Siebel (Faust), La Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica), Smeton (Anna Bolena), Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Flora (La traviata), the Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors) and the Mother (Hänsel und Gretel), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), and Annio (La clemenza di Tito).  She has sung with Opera San Jose, Dicapo Opera Theatre, Opera in the Heights, Livermore Valley Opera, One World Symphony, New Opera NYC, dell'Arte Opera Ensemble, Center City Opera, Opera Company of Brooklyn, Opera Manhattan, Long Island Opera, New York Lyric Opera Theater, Intermezzo Opera Festival, and Martina Arroyo Foundation among others. Ms. Yelizarova sang at Carnegie Hall with Pacific Encore Opera, and was a guest artist at the Midsummer Mozart Festival, and Natchez Opera Festival. During Covid-19 pandemic, she participated in many recording projects and online concerts, including From Russia, With Love, produced by Opera Modesto at the Gallo Center for The Arts. She just returned to in-person theater work as a chorister of San Diego Opera. Originally from Moscow, Russia, Ms. Yelizarova holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in voice from the Manhattan School of Music and New Jersey City University. In Russia, she received her first Bachelor's Degree in Conducting.

Sarah Benzinger,  soprano, sings the role of Prilepa in Pique Dame. She previously made her West Bay Opera debut singing Anna in Nabucco. Most recently, she appeared as Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte) with Opera Modesto. A native of Eureka,CA, prior to the pandemic she was engaged to sing Nedda in Pagliacci with Eureka Lyric Opera and Woman 1 in Frida with Opera Cultura in San Jose. Previous roles include Musetta (La bohème), Amore (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice). She has additionally appeared with Redwood Symphony, Capitol Opera Sacramento, Goat Hall Productions, Astoria Music Festival, Opera Tijuana, Chamber Music Silicon Valley, and the Oregon Bach Collegium. She was a Regional Finalist in the NW Metropolitan National Council Auditions.


Jackson Beaman,  tenor,  returns to West Bay Opera to sing the role of Chekalinsky in Pique Dame. He has previously sung with West Bay Opera as Malcom (Macbeth), Morales, Dancairo (Carmen), First Prisoner (Fidelio), Third Jew (Salome), Tinca (Il tabarro), and Ruiz (Il trovatore). Other engagements for Mr. Beaman include Ralph Rackstraw (H.M.S. Pinafore) with Lamplighters, Nathaniel (Tales of Hoffmann) with Pocket Opera, and Advisor 2 to LBJ (Lady Bird: First Lady of the Land) in a coproduction with Bay Shore Lyric Opera, Mission Chamber Orchestra of SJ, and SJ Symphonic choir. He has also appeared with Pocket Opera as Rabonier (La rondine) and Tonik (Two Widows), and with Island City Opera, covering the role of Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor). He has also sung Tamino (Die Zauberflöte

) and Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) in scenes directed by Jose Maria Condemi. Mr. Beaman attended U.C. Santa Barbara (UCSB), where he sang the role of Bob (The Old Maid and the Thief). He holds a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from UCSB and an A.A. in Music from De Anza College. 


Matthew Lovell,  bass,  returns to West Bay Opera to sing the role of Surin in Pique Dame. Past engagements include productions with West Bay Opera, Oakland Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, and has been a member of the San Francisco Opera chorus. He earned a Masters' in Music from the University of California, Santa Cruz and currently resides in San Francisco.

Megan Cullen,  soprano, returns to West Bay Opera to sing the role of Masha and understudy Liza in Pique Dame. Previously with West Bay Opera, Megan has covered the roles of Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Abigaille (Nabucco), and the title role in Turandot.  A Bay area native, Ms. Cullen has also worked with Opera San Jose, where she covered The Witch and The Mother (Hansel and Gretel). In 2021, Megan sang the role of Medji in Dana Kaufman’s Diary of a Madman with Lowbrow Opera Collective in Seattle, WA. Before the pandemic, Megan sang Nella (Gianni Schicchi) and covered The Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors) with Music On-Site in Wichita, KS.  She will be performing at Carnegie Hall this spring as a Grand Prize Winner of the American Protége Competition. She also recently won the Jury Prize for Best Interpretation (Verdi’s Abigaille) from The Montecatini Opera Festival International Competition (Italy) - the first American to ever win the honor singing Verdi. Megan was educated at the San Francisco Conservatory, Boston University, and The Juilliard School. 


Alexander Frank,  tenor,  sings the role of the Majordomo in Pique Dame. He has previously appeared with West Bay Opera as the Messenger (Samson et Dalila), as the 2nd villager in (Pagliacci), and as a member of the chorus in many other performances. Other opera appearances include Becero (Leoncavallo’s La bohème) with West Edge Opera, Nathaniel (The Tales of Hoffman) with Berkeley Opera, Beppe (Pagliacci) with Bay Area Opera Collaborative, and Joseph Rauh/Cop in Mary D. Watkins' Dark River with Oakland Opera. His concert work includes performances as tenor soloist with Slavyanka Chorus in Rachmaninoff’s Vespers, with Golden State Youth Orchestra in Orff’s Carmina Burana, with Bay Area Classical Harmonies in Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine and Handel's Brockes Passion, and with Voices of Silicon Valley in Stockhausen’s Stimmung and Berio's Cries of London. As a composer, he has debuted original choral compositions with Voices of Silicon Valley and Bay Area Classical Harmonies, and his two self-produced musical dramas, Come With Me and Finding Connection, are available to watch on YouTube.

Carmello Tringali,  tenor, returns to West Bay Opera to sing the role of Chaplitsky in Pique Dame. He has previously appeared in West Bay Opera productions as Abdallo (Nabucco), Barbarigo (I due Foscari), Parpignol (La bohème), Jaquino (Fidelio), Flavio (Norma), Second Jew (Salome), Gherardo (Gianni Schicchi) and the Song Seller and Lover (Il tabarro), Don Basilio and Don Curzio (Le nozze di Figaro), Triquet (Yevgeny Onegin) and Borsa (Rigoletto). Carmello is a versatile performer and Bay Area native, taking on a wide variety of roles in terms of voice type, musical style and character. He is also a guitarist and composer. Some of his favorite past roles include Rodolfo (La bohème), Nemorino (Elisir d'amore), and the title roles in Candide and Faust.

Julia Simon prepared the boys' chorus for Pique Dame. She is the Program Director and founder of the Silicon Valley Boychoir holding advanced degrees from Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) and Westminster Choir College (Princeton, NJ). Julia has taught music in the Palo Alto schools, local churches, and community choirs. She has coached singers for performances with the S.F. Symphony, S.F. Opera, Opera San Jose, Opera Cultura, as well as West Bay Opera’s productions of Tosca (2013), Il trittico (2017), and La bohème (2018).

The Silicon Valley Boychoir, founded in 2010, gives boys ages 7-18 an opportunity to gain vocal training, music literacy, and artistic achievement. The multi-level choir, led by Artistic Director Kaia Richards, rehearses weekly in Palo Alto. In addition to its own concerts, SVB has performed with Stanford Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, Schola Cantorum, and at Stanford basketball games. Auditions are now being held for Fall 2022.
