The most prominent courtesan in Paris, Violetta renounces a life of pleasure and privilege for Alfredo's love. But her dream is short lived. Set in the original period, Paris in the 1830's. This is Verdi's most famous score.

Don Govanni, the ultimate libertine womanizer, counts his romantic conquests by the hundreds. Challenged to a duel by the father of one of his victims, the Commendatore, he handily kills the old man. Encountering the old man’s statue at the cemetery, he invites it to come to dinner at his palace. The statue accepts, and later turns up to carry the unrepentant Don Giovanni to hell for his misdeeds.

Condemned to roam the seas forever in his ghost ship, the Flying Dutchman comes ashore every seventh year seeking redemption through a woman who will be true to him. Could Captain Daland’s daughter, Senta, be that woman? This is Wagner’s take on the old legend, and his first major operatic success.
